2O years of SNOW SOCIETY
“WELCOME TO THE LAND OF SKIING!” BEGINS THE PREFACE OF THE FIRST SNOW SOCIETY EDITION 2O YEARS AGO. THE MAGAZINE WAS MEANT TO BE AN INSPIRATION FOR WINTER SPORTS IN THE ÖTZTAL. MAIN FOCUS THEN AS NOW, THE NEUTRAL AND UNIQUE SKI TEST – AN INITIATIVE OF GEROLD RIML. AND TO THIS DAY A PRESTIGIOUS PROJECT.
The first edition of Snow Society magazine was published in time for the 2001/02 winter season. Initially conceived as a print version parallel to the online platform skitest.net, the magazine has developed over the years into a 100-page primer for sports and lifestyle trends and is both a travel and vacation guide for an active vacation in the Ötztal.

THE SKI TEST AS A FLAGSHIP
As part of the annual ski test, all quality brands, the top material of the season and current ski innovations are put through their paces in cooperation with the ski instructors of the Obergurgl Ski School. Several weeks of hardest test work with countless downhill runs, relentless service intervals and in different snow and weather conditions. Various parameters and
data such as turning ability, tracking and handling, stability and agility, but also price-performance ratio are finally included in the scientific analysis.
The final results serve both companies and ski magazines as a brand ski test, as well as private individuals in search of the right material tuning. “Guests can get advice from the comfort of their own home, pre-book their ideal ski and start and enjoy their vacation in a completely uncomplicated way,” is the original idea behind the ski test. A “best-of” of the ski test is published annually in Snow Society magazine. Divided into categories such as race ski, carver, all-mountain or open space, the three best skis of the season are selected, (cheaper) alternatives are listed and (length) recommendations are given. Neutral and independent.
A MAGAZINE WITH ADDED VALUE
The content of Snow Society magazine has been expanded over the years to include fashion trends, culinary tips and recommendations for places to eat and drink, as well as news from the Ötztal valley, lifestyle topics and portraits of regional products and companies. In the meantime, the articles no longer cover only the Ötztal as well as the Tyrolean Inntal around Telfs – another Riml Sports location. And because summer tourism in this country has increased significantly in recent years, the topic of mountain summer is also taking up more and more space in the magazine.
While the first Snow Society publications were only available in German, bilingual editions with English translations followed
a few years later, making them accessible to international guests. The initially simple design also gradually became more elaborate and more modern in keeping with the spirit of the times. Thus, the high-circulation Snow Society magazine with its high-quality layout developed into a true high-end product. About 20,000 copies of the current issue are sent to all households in the region every year at the beginning of the winter season and are available in numerous accommodations,
hotels and stores. As inspiration, to browse and take away.
In this sense, we look forward to many more Snow Society publications!
